Type B Aortic Dissection Diagnosed by Left-Sided Transthoracic Ultrasonography in a Woman With Preeclampsia

Laparoscopic aortic lymphadenectomy in left-sided inferior vena cava
2020
Transposition of the inferior vena cava (IVC), also known as left-sided IVC (LS-IVC), is a rare congenital variant which results from regression of the right supracardinal vein and persistence of the left supracardinal vein in embryonic development.[1 2][1] LS-IVC occurs in 0.2–0.5% of the general
An unusual association of left‐sided gastroschisis and persistent right umbilical vein
2018
Key Clinical Message Gastroschisis is a full‐thickness congenital abdominal wall defect usually occurring to the right of the umbilicus. About twenty cases of left‐sided gastroschisis have been reported, without reference to the laterality of the umbilical vein. This first case highlights the importance of considering and reporting this association by the perinatal team.
Association of MAPK signaling subtypes with prognostic benefit for bevacizumab in left-sided metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) patients treated wit…
2019
3584 Background: We investigated the role of the MAPK pathway by mRNA expression profiles in microarrays of the FIRE-3 trial as it was formerly associated with prognosis. Methods: 451 patients provided eligible mRNA material for subsequent analyses of the MAPK pathway (295 genes). Non-negative matrix factorized (NMF) clustering for normalized mRNA microarray data (Almac Inc, Xcel Array) was performed for 2 to 6 ranks against randomized controls. Linear models with adjustment for multiple testing showed differential gene expression between groups. Single sample gene set enrichment analysis (ssGSEA) was used to compare differentially enriched hallmarks of cancer gene sets. Kaplan Meier metho…
Anosognosia for hemiparesis after left-sided stroke
2014
In patients with left-sided lesions, anosognosia for hemiparesis (AHP) seems to be a rare phenomenon. It has been discussed whether this rareness might be due to an inevitable bias due to language dysfunction and whether the left hemisphere's role for our self-awareness of motor actions thus is underestimated. By applying functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) we examined whether patients with AHP following a left hemisphere stroke show a regular, left-sided or a reversed, right-sided lateralization of language functions. Only the former observation would argue for an original role of the left hemisphere in self-awareness about limb function. In a consecutive series of 44 acute left-s…
Safety of primary anastomosis following emergency left sided colorectal resection: an international, multi-centre prospective audit
2018
Introduction: Some evidence suggests that primary anastomosis following left sided colorectal resection in the emergency setting may be safe in selected patients, and confer favourable outcomes to permanent enterostomy. The aim of this study was to compare the major postoperative complication rate in patients undergoing end stoma vs primary anastomosis following emergency left sided colorectal resection. Methods: A pre-planned analysis of the European Society of Coloproctology 2017 audit. Adult patients (> 16 years) who underwent emergency (unplanned, within 24 h of hospital admission) left sided colonic or rectal resection were included. The primary endpoint was the 30-day major complic…
